2023/2024
Our First Journey
This year, Durham College students led storytelling workshops during the Fall Reading Week of 2023, this time with a focus on reconciliation and Indigenous identity.
Documenting Change
The Youth Mentors in Guatemala produced powerful stories through podcasting, video, and photography, sharing insights into their culture and the ongoing inequalities faced by the Mayan people since before the civil war’s end in 1996.

Reflection & Appreciation
During the Winter Reading Week, the students traveled to the communities of San Felipe and Ojo de Agua to deepen their understanding of Mayan traditions and the historical impacts of the civil war. The journey also included a visit to Lake Atitlán and Panajachel, offering a chance to experience the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.
